The 6 Life Lessons you can Learn
from The Handmaid’s Tale.
Approximately two months ago I started to watch the Hulu’s most seen series ‘The Handmaid’s Tale’ coming from the book written by Margaret Atwood.
A work college recommended it to me several times and I decided to give it a try.
I must admit that I finished the first season in about a just a few days, and I am currently totally hooked with the second season.
The famous TV series deals with subjects ad Freedom, Equality, Politics, Diversity, Human Rights, Friendship or Family matters among others. It challenges you to imagine a new reality where everything has changed drastically.
From my point of view, there are some important lessons we can learn from watching The Handmaid’s Tale and here they are:
Freedom is not as simple as we think.
The concept of Freedom can be relative. Despite it should have just one worldwide meaning, that is not the reality. We really should value the freedom we have more often than we normally do. Some countries are still in serious fights for this right.
Everything is changing fast.
Things can change very fast. We live in an instant world where everything is changing extremely fast. Do you remember that just 10 years ago we were still sending SMS? This requires a constant effort from our side to stay tuned and updated about what is happening around.
The Power of Fear.
The most basic emotions are still the most powerful for everything. In this case, fear is the tool they used for control. On this TV production, you can easily see and feel how fear can totally paralyze and control you. This is in a certain way also happening every day around us. People are guided by this insecurity feeling and letting them control the way they live.
Dreams and Goals are the Fuel for our Lives.
Our deepest desires and dreams can maintain us alive. Offred’s desire of seeing her daughter is the only thing that makes her a fighter, no matter the reality.
As the actress, we all should remember our most important dreams every day to fight against the difficulties. It will keep
There is Always Somebody to Help Us.
Sometimes in the most difficult and hard situations, we can find true friendship. Even when everything seems to be dark, there will be people willing to help and support you. As it is shown
We can Always Change our Beliefs and Dreams.
People are complicated and forgiveness is not easy, is a gift. I believe Serena is one of the most complicated characters of the series. She knows the impact of her work and she is not sure about what she deeply wants.
She can teach us that sometimes we can wish something and once we achieved it, we realize it was not what we expected. This happens to all of us, and it is ok. We need to accept, learn and turn to a new goal.
